Join Ruben Verborgh, researcher in semantic hypermedia at Ghent University, for a DCMI/ASIS&T joint webinar on the Linked Data Fragments family of technologies. The dream of Linked Data: if we just get our data online, the promised Semantic Web will eventually rise. Everybody will be able to query our data with minimal effort. We will be able to integrate data from multiple sources on the fly. Everything will just work and data will flow freely ever after.

Well, that hasn’t really happen yet.

Even though we published billions of triples on the Web, there are few places that reliably let us execute queries over them. Integration is still very limited. This webinar introduces you to the Linked Data Fragments family of technologies, which take a much more pragmatic view of the Web of Data. Whereas one of the main problems with the Semantic Web is currently the high publication cost of data (with unknown return), Linked Data Fragments proposes shifting the complexity of querying from the server to the client. This makes publishing Linked Data affordable and realistic on the Web. 2015-12-07. Throughout the month of December, the LD4PE project team will be doing a major update to the Competency Index for Linked Data including a phasing out of the prototype data used for development and demonstration and a phasing in of the Editorial Board-approved data and realignment of associated mappings. Briefing Paper #4, LD4PE Overview, describes the IMLS-funded Linked Data for Professional Education (LD4PE) project that is developing a competency-based prototype referatory of learning resources for teaching and learning Linked Data practices in design, implementation, and management. The Briefing describes the project’s milestones including the RFD-based competency framework that will drive the indexing of Linked Data learning resource descriptions to the knowledge, skills, and habits of mind those resources address.

The briefing describes the nature of the competency framework and the crowd-sourcing of expertise being used in its development. In addition, the Briefing discusses the toolkit of AngularJS editors under development for both creating of the competency framework and the learning resource descriptions.

2015-07-04. Today we added three ASN Briefing Papers covering the basics of the Achievement Standards Network (ASN) model and description language. The documents are still being polished but should be useful to those unfamiliar with competency frameworks and how they are described using the ASN-DL (Description Language).
