Understands that owl:equivalentProperty and owl:equivalentClass may be used when equivalencies between properties or between classes are exact. – Linked Data for Professional Education https://ld4pe.dublincore.org Learning resources tagged by competency Thu, 19 Nov 2020 14:45:03 +0000 en-US hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=4.9.16 Tutorial on Metadata Provenance https://ld4pe.dublincore.org/learning_resource/tutorial-on-metadata-provenance/ Wed, 23 Nov 2016 05:50:23 +0000 https://ld4pe.dublincore.org/learning_resource/tutorial-on-metadata-provenance/ This two-part slide presentation was used at the Semantic Web in Libraries (SWIB) Conference. "Part 1: Linked Data Provenance" answers the questions, "How can we identify RDF data, statements within RDF data, Linked Data, … in order to provide provenance?". "Part 2: The PROV Ontology" addresses, "How can we represent the provenance of resources?".

RDFProv: A Relational RDF Store for Querying and Managing Scientific Workflow Provenance https://ld4pe.dublincore.org/learning_resource/rdfprov-a-relational-rdf-store-for-querying-and-managing-scientific-workflow-provenance/ Wed, 23 Nov 2016 05:50:23 +0000 https://ld4pe.dublincore.org/learning_resource/rdfprov-a-relational-rdf-store-for-querying-and-managing-scientific-workflow-provenance/ Provenance metadata has become increasingly important to support scientific discovery, reproducibility, result interpretation, and problem diagnosis in scientific workflow environments. The provenance management problem concerns the efficiency and effectiveness of the modeling, recording, representation, integration, storage, and querying of provenance metadata. The authors present an approach to provenance management which they claim "seamlessly integrates the interoperability, extensibility, and inference advantages of Semantic Web technologies with the storage and querying power of an RDBMS to meet the emerging requirements of scientific workflow provenance management". In this paper, they elaborate on the design of a relational RDF store, called RDFProv, which is optimized for scientific workflow provenance querying and management.

Semantic Web Languages and Standards https://ld4pe.dublincore.org/learning_resource/semantic-web-languages-and-standards/ Sat, 16 Jan 2016 13:43:29 +0000 https://ld4pe.dublincore.org/learning_resource/semantic-web-languages-and-standards/ This lecture covers a lot of ground- from very basic to quite advanced. It begins by attempting to define the Semantic Web and explain its basic principles, which leads to a discussion of Linked Data and the principles which underpin it. The RDF data model is briefly described before moving on to how vocabularies are designed and reasoned over using RDF Schema and OWL.

Model Driven Engineering for Publishing Data on the Semantic Web https://ld4pe.dublincore.org/learning_resource/model-driven-engineering-for-publishing-data-on-the-semantic-web/ Sat, 10 Oct 2015 12:05:44 +0000 https://ld4pe.dublincore.org/learning_resource/mde-for-publishing-data-on-the-semantic-web/ Publishing local data on the Semantic Web requires that one provide a shareable semantic data representation of that data. This paper presents a complete Model Driven Engineering (MDE) approach that allows for importing data sources into an RDF repository. First, the object domain model is mapped to an ontology and to a persistence model through annotation performed by a domain expert. Then, all other processes are automated and data transformations are generated from the mappings via model-weaving techniques.

Linking Spatial Data: Semi-Automated Conversion of Geoinformation Models and GML data to RDF https://ld4pe.dublincore.org/learning_resource/linking-spatial-data-semi-automated-conversion-of-geoinformation-models-and-gml-data-to-rdf/ Sat, 10 Oct 2015 12:05:44 +0000 https://ld4pe.dublincore.org/learning_resource/linking-spatial-data-semi-automated-conversion-of-geoinformation-models-and-gml-data-to-rdf/ Linked Data provides an alternative route for the dissemination of spatial information compared to the traditional Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA)-based Spatial Data Infrastructure (SDI) approach. The traditional approach has provided a wealth of standardized and structured location data based on Geography Markup Language (GML), while Linked Data provides an open mechanism for sharing and combining this data with anything, once the data is available as Linked Data. The first part of the paper focuses on deriving Linked Data from GML data. In the second part, it examines how more meaningfully expressed RDF data can be created from GML by transforming it from Unified Modeling Language (UML) to OWL.
