Knows SKOS eXtension for Labels, or SKOS-XL (2009), a small set of additional properties for describing and linking lexical labels as instances of the class Label. – Linked Data for Professional Education https://ld4pe.dublincore.org Learning resources tagged by competency Thu, 19 Nov 2020 14:45:03 +0000 en-US hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=4.9.16 SKOS and Linked Data https://ld4pe.dublincore.org/learning_resource/skos-and-linked-data/ Sun, 06 Aug 2017 07:58:04 +0000 https://ld4pe.dublincore.org/learning_resource/skos-and-linked-data/ This slideshare presentation introduces SKOS and explains how it can be used to represent RDF in a simple way. It explains how SKOS differs from OWL a more formal system of semantics. Along the way, basic Linked Data Principles are explained. Includes links to references and demos, which explain the benefits of using SKOS as well as areas that need to be developed further.

What SKOS-XL adds to SKOS https://ld4pe.dublincore.org/learning_resource/what-skos-xl-adds-to-skos/ Tue, 10 Jan 2017 06:45:33 +0000 https://ld4pe.dublincore.org/learning_resource/what-skos-xl-adds-to-skos/ In this blog post, the author describes the differences between SKOS and SKOS-XL. Includes a brief example (in Turtle syntax) of a SKOS-XL representation with extra properties adding metadata to some of the labels describing entities in a dataset. He explains that this would not be possible in regular SKOS, because there labels are considered strings (or, sometimes, "lexical entities") and are not allowed to posses such properties of their own.

From SKOS over SKOS-XL to Custom Ontologies https://ld4pe.dublincore.org/learning_resource/from-skos-over-skos-xl-to-custom-ontologies/ Mon, 28 Nov 2016 05:58:41 +0000 https://ld4pe.dublincore.org/learning_resource/from-skos-over-skos-xl-to-custom-ontologies/ This webinar explains how taxonomy management based on Simple Knowledge Organization System (SKOS) can be extended with SKOS-XL, based on W3C's Semantic Web standards. See how SKOS-XL can be combined with ontologies like the Financial Industry Business Ontology (FIBO). After covering these core concepts, the speaker moves on to a demonstration of the Pool Party Semantic Suite's SKOS-XL editor.

PoolParty's built in reference corpus analysis based on powerful text mining helps to continuously extend taxonomies. Its built-in co-occurence analysis supports taxonomists with the identification of candidate concepts.

PoolParty Semantic Integrator can be used for deep data analytics tasks and semantic search. See how this can be integrated with various graph databases and search engines.

Who Needs SKOS-XL? Maybe No One https://ld4pe.dublincore.org/learning_resource/who-needs-skos-xl-maybe-no-one/ Tue, 15 Sep 2015 02:33:10 +0000 https://ld4pe.dublincore.org/learning_resource/who-needs-skos-xl-maybe-no-one/ This blog post from "Voyages of the Semantic Enterprise" discusses the following issues and invites feedback: The SKOS-XL extension to the W3Cs SKOS standard for vocabulary management adds flexibility in how you track concept names, but it adds complexity and potential confusion that are rarely, if ever, worth it. Without a doubt, these issues play a role in the fact that while the use and tool support for SKOS is growing, there are few if any tools for SKOS-XL or published SKOS-XL vocabularies. An even more important factor is the lack of compelling business value that would justify SKOS-XL complexity.
