This slide tutorial teaches the user how to form SPARQL queries to answer various questions of interest and retrieve results from DBpedia's SPARQL endpoint. In each example, a prompt is given and then followed by the completed query and results table. Also discussed is how to find an appropriate vocabulary using the Linked Open Vocabularies (LOV).

These gits were created to demonstrate the SPARQL examples used in the DCMI/ASIS&T webinar, "From 0 to 60 on SPARQL queries in 50 minutes". Each git contains a fully-functional SPARQL query which can be copied and pasted into a SPARQL endpoint and successfully retrieve results. They can also be deconstructed to demonstrate a variety of useful techniques, as well as the functions of various SPARQL operators.

This interface implements SPARQL and SPARQL+ via HTTP Bindings. Enabled operations: select, construct, ask, describe (Max. number of results : 2000). Includes three sample queries: 1) Get the name, homepage and phone number of this organisation; 2) Search for phone/email of anyone with the surname Jones; 3) List eprints and journal names of articles published in January 2011. One dozen of the most commonly used namespaces are already filled in to the PREFIX fields for the user. Results are outputted in all commonly used formats (including CSV, XML, and JSON).

This links to the PDF version of Ethan Gruber's webinar, which provides an introduction to SPARQL, a query language for RDF. Users will gain hands-on experience crafting queries, starting simply, but evolving in complexity. These queries will focus on coinage data at the SPARQL endpoint hosted by http://nomisma.org with numismatic concepts defined in a SKOS-based thesaurus and physical specimens from three major museum collections linked to these concepts. Results generated from these queries in the form of CSV may be imported directly into Google Fusion Tables for immediate visualization in the form of charts and maps.
