Several examples are provided which include the RDF data being queried, the SPARQL query itself, and the result table. This is followed by quiz questions which ask the user to query DBpedia's SPARQL endpoint. The answers to the question (in the form of completed SPARQL queries) are included.

Watch this: Probe the Semantic Web with SPARQL https://ld4pe.dublincore.org/learning_resource/watch-this-probe-the-semantic-web-with-sparql/ Sat, 16 Jan 2016 13:43:28 +0000 https://ld4pe.dublincore.org/learning_resource/watch-this-probe-the-semantic-web-with-sparql/ One thing that is immediately obvious from the triple pattern of SPARQL queries is that harvesting information from the Semantic Web is more complex than firing query terms at a database. SPARQL queries are addresses to specific locations in the RDF graph structure, and furthermore, the elements of a SPARQL query are themselves addresses.

Markup Languages and Document Processing: Vocabularies and Queries https://ld4pe.dublincore.org/learning_resource/markup-languages-and-document-processing-vocabularies-and-queries/ Tue, 10 Nov 2015 02:57:30 +0000 https://ld4pe.dublincore.org/learning_resource/markup-languages-and-document-processing-lecture-10/ This lesson plan was used for the course "Markup Languages and Document Processing", part of the Master in Informatics and Computing Engineering program at Porto University. Contains Bibliography and Materials (most with links) used to achieve the following learning goals: Describe the class and properties of RDF Schema; Define application profiles as vocabularies designed for a domain and shared in a community; Query ontologies using the SPARQL language.

It also covers tools and technological building blocks developed by the AKSW research group from Universitat Leipzig. Note: This is a very comprehensive overview, but lacks exposition. These slides are sufficiently detailed to be valuable as a jumping off point for developing a lesson plan or lecture. For example, many LD tools and applications are mentioned which could be explored further as course assignments.

Demonstrates how to query DBPedia for useful/interesting questions. Shows not just how to construct SPARQL queries, but also the critical process of determining the appropriate classes and properties of a resource which one must first know before attempting to construct a query.
