Includes a brief discussion of how SPARQL queries are formed, but the post is more appropriate for users who already have some familiarity.

Knowledge Engineering and the Web https://ld4pe.dublincore.org/learning_resource/knowledge-engineering-and-the-web/ Tue, 10 Nov 2015 05:13:00 +0000 https://ld4pe.dublincore.org/learning_resource/knowledge-engineering-and-the-web/ The lecturer asserts that the Web can be viewed as a vehicle for knowledge democracy. Several technologies have been developed to support knowledge transfer via the Web, including languages like RDF, OWL and SKOS. He discusses the effectiveness of these technologies, as well as methods and techniques that can be used for practical Web-based knowledge engineering. He illustrates this with application examples in the domain of digital heritage collections. Using Taxonomies with a Semantic Graph Database https://ld4pe.dublincore.org/learning_resource/using-taxonomies-with-a-semantic-graph-database/ https://ld4pe.dublincore.org/learning_resource/using-taxonomies-with-a-semantic-graph-database/#respond Thu, 13 Aug 2015 03:26:19 +0000 https://ld4pe.dublincore.org/learning_resource/using-taxonomies-with-a-semantic-graph-database/ This is a PDF version of a presentation originally given at Taxonomy Boot Camp 2014. It contains a practical example of how to use taxonomies to index and classify unstructured data (in this case, notes related to medical risks) and then model them in AllegroGraph. It then goes further to show how to make this model even better by using Linked Open Data to connect to other datasets, such as SNOMED and MESH.

It gives an overview of current visualization tools and techniques, looking at semantic browsers and applications for presenting the data to the end user. Also described are existing search options, based on a mix of semantic information and text processing. Finally, the presentation concludes with approaches for Linked Data analysis, describing how available data can be synthesized and processed in order to draw conclusions. NOTE: These slides represent material from several lessons that comprised a larger "module" of the EUCLID Project. As such, they cover a wider range of topics than most resources.
