Mapping relational data to RDF is an important task for the development of the Semantic Web. To this end, the W3C has recently released a Recommendation for the so-called direct mapping of relational data to RDF. The authors of this work propose an enrichment of the direct mapping to make it more faithful by
also transferring semantic information present in the relational schema from the relational world to the RDF world.

- Articulates differences between the RDF abstract data model and the XML and relational models.
- Knows methods such as Direct Mapping of Relational Data to RDF (2012) for transforming data from the relational model (keys, values, rows, columns, tables) into RDF graphs.
- Understands the difference between SQL query language (which operates on database tables) and SPARQL (which operates on RDF graphs).
