The lecturer asserts that the Web can be viewed as a vehicle for knowledge democracy. Several technologies have been developed to support knowledge transfer via the Web, including languages like RDF, OWL and SKOS. He discusses the effectiveness of these technologies, as well as methods and techniques that can be used for practical Web-based knowledge engineering. He illustrates this with application examples in the domain of digital heritage collections.
