In this slide presentation, the author argues that "the need for ontologies in the real world is manifest and increasing". This talk explores some of these needs on the Web-scale in data integration, emerging technologies, and Linked Data applications. It also asks an important question – where are the features needed for these found in OWL? The talk ends with some challenges to the OWL – and greater ontology – community to help increase the use of standard ontologies on the Web.
